    THE AUTHOR: Knut Walf, born in 1936 in Berlin-Dahlem. Studies in Philosophy, Roman Catholic Theology, Law and Canon Law in Munich and Fribourg. Obtained his Ph.D. in 1965 and "Habilitation" in Canon Law in Munich (1971). He was a lecturer from 1972 till 1977 at the University of Munich, and in 1977 he was appointed Professor of Canon Law at the University of Nijmegen in The Nether- lands. From 1985 till 1997 he was also Professor in Canon Law at the Faculty of Theology in Tilburg, The Netherlands. Vis.prof.Univ.of Fribourg, Switzerland; Univ.of Saarbruecken, Germany; Catholic University.of America, Washington, D.C. He is the author of numerous publications in Canon Law, on the changes in religious consciousness ("Stille Fluchten", 1983) and in Taoism (TAO fuer den Westen, 1989/1997/TAO voor het Westen, 1991; Westliche Taoismus-Bibliographie / Western Bibliography of Taoism, 1997 [fourth edition]).
