“Retirement home” is available in series with a shower of stars
They are between 77 and 93 years old, and their joy is reminiscent of children at summer camp. They are the troupe of actors who became friends on the sets of the films Retirement home, Retirement home 2 and now their serial version. According to Michel Jonasz, “a sincere brotherhood and a real complicity” were born between Liliane Rovère, Firmine Richard, Daniel Prévost, Chantal Ladesou, Claudette Wagner and Enrico Macias.
Their shared laughter during a press conference attests to this. “I told my children: the nursing home is no! But since I took part in these shoots, I want to go to a residence like that. It’s affection (shown on screen as well as experienced on set) that we, elderly people, need,” confides Enrico Macias.
Michel Jonasz, author of the song The retirement homea title in which he shared in 2019 his refusal to end his days in these places, adds: “I had a very negative vision of it. This fiction allows us to give a completely different image and that feels good! » And indeed, in their fictional institution, the Lino Vartan home, nestled in a soothing green setting, it is good to age.
Mutual aid and cohesion are the salt of life for Albert, Sylvette, Fleurette, Alfred, La Colonelle, Marguerite and Rico. As eternal children, with a keen sense of humor and wisdom, these residents are always heckling and hatching plans during “council meetings”. When they’re not dancing in the middle of the night, eating food cooked by Fleurette!
The history of the residents in detail
Building on the success in theaters and on television of his first two feature films, Kev Adams (co-writer, co-director and actor of the character of Milann) had the possibility of imagining a sequel. “But turn Retirement home 3 didn’t make much sense. » After reflection, with Élodie Hesme (co-writer) and Claude Zidi Jr (co-director), he wrote a “choral series, where each of the six episodes tells in more detail the story of the residents to better understand the life they led, their dreams, their inspirations, their fears and their hopes. » Despite the novelty of the format and the arrival in the casting of Stefi Celma (Adèle), caregiver, then of Nicoletta (Nicole), the codes of the previous opuses were respected. And even taken back!
Such as the main setting: the neo-rococo residence of the Vert-Mont estate in Rueil-Malmaison, in Hauts-de-Seine. In the series, the building was the Milann orphanage then it became the very first family home for the elderly and orphans called the “Lino Vartan home”, and it remains the refuge of these elders. “TIG” is also making a comeback. Jules (Maleaume Paquin), Inès (Manon Balasuriy) and Badou (Aboubacar Bidanessy), these three adolescents of few words, must carry out their community service in this unique retirement home. Like Milann in the past. And like him, they will little by little forge links between generations, becoming attached to one of the residents, despite their respective initial mistrust.
The threat of closure which soon weighs on this haven of peace will push them to unite. Indeed, following betrayals, Milann, the director of the home, was imprisoned for an obscure affair, the subsidies allowing the institution to operate were cut and a real estate developer is harassing Adèle, who was made director in spite of herself, so that she sells the mansion…
For “transgenerational cohabitation projects”
Beyond the jokes in the script, sincerely making you smile and sometimes laugh frankly, the series highlights what Jarry, once again playing Alban, a colorful caregiver, considers to be “a necessary project: bringing together the young and the old. Solitudes need to find themselves again. There is always strength in unity. »
“The multiplication of transgenerational cohabitation projects”, Chantal Ladesou also calls for this. Liliane Rovère notes, for her part, with happiness, that “this series, like the films before it, owes something to old age, although it is often neglected in our country. » Without a doubt, season 2, currently being written and filming of which could take place before the summer of 2026, will once again honor in good humor the old age so precious for the future.
