Alice Ferney: “I like to understand without judging”

You publish As in love. Put us mouth water …

The subject of the novel is the friendship between a man and a woman. A possibility that I question and stage at the same time. The story also affects loyalty in friendship and love.

What does this book say about you?

That female solidarity counts for me. That I like to understand without judging.

The place that inspires you to write?

My office: a service room under the roofs in Paris. The only place completely to me, the place of guaranteed loneliness and freedom.

The work you could reread or review a hundred times?

Portrait of woman, Henry James’ novel and Jane Campion’s film. The psychological accuracy, the beauty of the style or images reach powerful truths together on the love and the conduct of a life.

The person who counted the most in your family?

My mother, of course. No one determines you more, it seems to me.

A quality that you will be proud to transmit?

Perseverance.

You have three days, a backpack and no car. Where are you going?

Nowhere. I stay and I read.

A gesture of happy sobriety?

Go to the shoemaker. Do not throw but repair.

For what cause would you market?

The end of pesticides, the disappearance of plastic, the protection of animals on land and at sea, the global abolition of gestation for others.

“Beauty will save the world”… Yes, but which one?

It is around the world to save the beauty of the earth.

You meet Pope Leo. What questions burn your lips?

When will the church authorize the marriage of priests? In my opinion, it would be progress towards greater integration of religious life in real life, equality and an opening that seem necessary and beneficial to me. Women bring the Church to life, transmit faith, and yet have no power.

What are you for?

I don’t pray often and never to ask, rather to share a joy or a fear.
