advice from Marcel Rufo

The point of view of Marcel Rufo, child psychiatrist

I find your husband very lucky to have you as his wife, Sabine! He considered his work to be central, but leisure activities have now become the essential part of your life together. You relieve him of all stewardship, allowing him to spend part of his free time as he wishes, while regularly enjoying the presence of your grandchildren. Perhaps you could affectionately tell him that he has some sort of debt of happiness to repay. How? By saving you surprises. By announcing that, on a particular weekend, you will not be available for your grandchildren due to a getaway that they have planned. Ultimately, it is up to Philippe to rekindle the flame within your relationship. You will no doubt reply that I am speaking to your husband, whereas it is you who are writing to me, Sabine. So I would advise you – once is not customary – to read this response to him… suggesting to him that he holds the key to the problem: “It’s up to you now, Philippe!” If he takes this invitation into account, the harmonious life as a couple and family that you have had until then is set to continue in a beautiful retirement to live together.
