Money matters are always delicate…those of using an inheritance, even more so. My first thought is of your children or your immediate family. Are they in financial difficulties that would make them feel a priority in relation to a project in favor of an association? If not, what reasons do you have to talk about it? You may want to gather legal advice – but profitability doesn’t seem to concern you -, secure outside perspectives, or simply increase family transparency.
In any case, prepare to collect as many opinions as there are people consulted. Consider that keeping the amount quiet will prevent you from making people envious or attracting hurtful remarks. Choosing discretion would allow you to act according to your values and convictions without feeling guilty. But this will not exempt you from checking the seriousness of the association, the terms of the loan, the repayment conditions, even if you expect little or no return on investment. And if you choose to talk about it with your loved ones, who knows?, this project might be able to attract them in your wake and thus grow even faster thanks to you.
