Mette Frederiksen defends Greenland against the United States
At the head of the Danish government since 2019, Mette Frederiksen is renowned for her firmness and composure. Two essential qualities at a time when the Trump administration is whetting its appetite for Greenland, an autonomous Danish territory.
“I strongly urge the United States to end its threats against a historic ally and a people who have made it clear they are not for sale,” she said.
A pro-European shift in the service of security
Caught between American pressure and the Russian danger, the Social Democrats have made a political shift in recent years. If she was closer to the United States than to Brussels at the start of her mandate, she now defends the project of a strong Europe.
Mette Frederiksen has established herself as a leading figure in Ukraine’s defense, supporting colossal spending, unprecedented for the kingdom, to strengthen her country’s security. The coming months will show whether this bet pays off. The Danes will indeed elect their deputies by the end of October, and the Prime Minister will remain in office if she maintains their confidence.
