Our selection of films where sound becomes a source of freedom

“Sorda” by Eva Libertad

Drama comedy, 1h39. In theaters April 29.

It begins like a tale, with the story of Angela, a gentle potter in love with Hector, a caring companion. Very quickly, the lovers are put to the test by the arrival of their first child. Will the newborn be deaf like his mother? Or hearing like his father? How will the child and his parents build their relationship? Will the surrounding world be able to welcome them? In this delicate film, subtitled for the hearing impaired, Spanish director Eva Libertad features her own sister, the actress Miriam Garlo. Without falling into clichés, she immerses us with grace and strength in the daily isolation felt by those among us who live in silence.
