Pray Christmas with the saints
The “Prayer for Christmas” by Saint Bernard of Clairvaux (1090-1153)
“Lord, behold, Peace is no longer promised but sent.
A little child is given to us. In Him dwells the fullness of the Divinity.
What great proof of Your Love You give us, by adding to humanity the name of God.
So be it. »
The prayer “O divine Child, You made yourself small for me” by Saint Alphonsus de Liguori (1696-1787)
“You descend from the stars, O King of the sky, and You arrive in a cold and icy cave.
O divine Child, I realize that You are trembling: how much it costs You to have loved me!
You, Creator of the world, lack swaddling clothes and fire; O darling child! How much love this humility inspires in me!
You leave the divine bosom of your Father to come and suffer on this dunghill.
Where has Love led you? My Jesus, for whom did You suffer so much? It’s for me.
You are sleeping, dear Child; but your Heart does not sleep; no He watches at all hours.
What are you thinking about, my beautiful little Lamb? I am thinking, you say, of dying for you!
So be it. »
The prayer “Teach me to receive You” by Saint John Eudes (1601-1680)
“O Jesus, true God and true man, I adore you at the moment of your entry into our world.
From the first moment of your life, you return to your Father his gaze full of love and you invite us to do the same. With you, I want to praise Him for His love.
From this moment you love Mary, you fill her with graces, light and holiness. She responds to you with all the strength of her motherly love. Mary, please make me commune with the same love that you have for your Son.
O Jesus, you have always loved me, you want to live for me and even have a place in my life. You have a great desire to unite me with you. Thank you for this loving project. Forgive me for my resistance to welcoming you, give me grace and strength, to let you live in me.
Amen. »
