Rabbi Ghfirli is an invocation that we say between the two prostrations, when we are seated. We repeat it twice.

These two words are short, but weigh heavily in the balance with a good niya. It means: O Lord! Forgive me.

How do we ask our Lord to forgive us of our sins?

There are different ways to seek Allah’s forgiveness. As for the best of them, Shaddad ibn Aws, reported that the Prophet (Sallallahu alayhi wa salam) said:

“The best supplication to ask forgiveness from Allah is:

O Allah! You are my Lord, there is no divinity but You, You created me and I am Your slave, I hold as much as I can to my commitments and my promises to You, I take refuge with You against the evil of what I have done, I acknowledge Your benefits to me and my sins that I have committed… forgive me! For no one forgives sins except You.)”

The Prophet (Sallallahu alayhi wa salam) then said: “He who will have said it in the evening with conviction and will die before morning will enter Paradise – or will be among the inhabitants of Paradise -, and it will be the same for the one who will have said in the morning and will die before nightfall. »

There is also another formula with the word Rabbi Ghfirli. Ibn ‘Umar reported: “We have counted that the Messenger of Allah said a hundred times, during the same assembly:

“Rabbi ghfirli wa tub ‘alaiya innaka Anta-t-Tawwâbu-r-Rahim. »

(Lord accept my repentance and grant me Your forgiveness, for You are the Granter, the Merciful.)”

(Abu Dawud)

However, it is not enough simply to repeat these formulas of invocation. Indeed, it is necessary to put there a sincere intention, with an attentive heart, having regrets. In addition, it is also necessary to nurture the firm intention of not repeating the fishing committed and having the certainty that Allah will answer you.

The Prophet (Sallallahu alayhi wa salam) said: “Invoke Allah knowing that you will be answered and know that Allah does not answer the invocation of a distracted heart. »

(al-Tirmidhî (al-Albânî: hasan))

Explanation of the name of Allah: Ar Rabb

In his exegesis of Surat Al Fatiha, Sheikh As-Sadi said:

“The Lord is the One who nourishes and provides for all creation, that is to say all that exists apart from Allah, by the fact that He creates them, that He prepares for them everything what they need, may He favor them with great blessings, the withdrawal of which would prevent the creation from surviving. Thus, any blessing they possess comes from Him, Exalted be He.

It is possible that the reason why most invocations made by the Prophets include the word “Lord (“Rabb”) lies in the fact that it carries all these meanings. Indeed, all the things they desired through their invocations were under the control of His specific Lordship. “.
