“Light, the adventure continues”

By Thierry Frémaux, documentary, 1 h 44. In theaters.

On March 19, 1895, rue Saint-Victor in Lyon, Louis and Auguste Lumière invented the cinematograph. The film by Thierry Frémaux – director of the Lumière Institute and General Delegate of the Cannes Festival – pays them a magnificent tribute. Eight years after the first opus, Light, adventure begins, This second part allows spectators to discover 120 films of fifty seconds recently restored and brilliantly mounted.

Positioning of the camera, sense of staging and rhythm: beyond the invention of a technique, the Lumière brothers create an art in its own right. A plan, a framework, a sequence: the essence of the seventh art already lives in their films.

The comments of Thierry Frémaux prove to be tender and full of humor: “Seeing the views of the cinematograph is to clean his own eyes with everything that has since fed, nourished is to return to sources and to the original intention. In a passionate guide, he helps us to see beyond the images, by signaling their extensions in the cinema of Renoir, John Ford or Rossellini.

The music of Gabriel Fauré, contemporary with the Lumière brothers, colors the film with a nostalgia as intense as it is annoying.
