Evangelicals at the time of Laudato si’
The coincidence speaks for itself. While the diocese of Évry-Corbeille-Essonnes celebrated, with the participation of several journalists from Pilgrim, its first “Solidarity and ecology” festival, in Athis-Mons on April 11 and 12, 2026, a meeting on the same theme took place at the Free Faculty of Evangelical Theology of Vaux-sur-Seine (Yvelines).
Founded in 1965, this institute trains a large number of evangelical Protestant leaders in France, within rapidly developing communities. Communities which, until recently, have spoken little about the challenges posed by the ecological crisis for believers.
On April 11, 2026, the day of theological reflection therefore deserved to be highlighted. It was possible in particular thanks to the pioneering work of Christian associations such as the Protestant NGO A Rocha, one of the few in the French Christian community to develop scientifically validated biodiversity protection projects.
The audacity went so far as to evoke the encyclical Laudato si’ of Pope Francis, whose accents, certainly, are not shared by evangelical Protestants, but whose calls to action have been positively highlighted. More and more, the cries of the earth and the cries of the poorest are welcomed together by Christians. Good news.
