a site to explore Christian art
In architecture, the word “narthex” refers to the reception space of a church: this place where we move from the profane to the sacred. On the internet, we speak more of a “platform” or “portal”. However, for a site dedicated to sacred art, religious heritage and contemporary creation, what more beautiful title could we find? For fifteen years now, Narthex.fr has been introducing us to the latest discoveries in the history of art, to the notions of sacred architecture and the restoration of churches and their furniture. This digital magazine aims to be “a space for dialogue between society and the Church”, and helps to understand this sumptuous heritage and its history, its symbols, its codes.
To better serve its readers, Narthex.fr has just had a new look, with a tool and renovated graphics. We find its rich database containing more than 2000 in-depth articles written by more than 40 contributors, such as its news and its agenda.
A new editor-in-chief, Jeanne Villeneuve, takes the reins of this “online magazine which raises the question of the links between art and the Church,” she explains. Sensitive to contemporary art, she will develop, with her team, a reflection in this direction, with articles which will question the ways of developing its presence in sacred heritage.
Le Pèlerin, a weekly sensitive to the preservation of sacred heritage, has been a partner of Narthex.fr since its launch and wishes great success to the digital magazine.
