Does France abandon its climate ambition?
Context
Repeated fires, longer waves of heat and intense, lack of water … Climate change shows once again, this summer, his disturbing face. At the same time, the High Council for the Climate, an independent body responsible for assessing France’s policy in this area, sounds the alarm. In 2024, the rhythm of decarbonation of the French economy has slowed heavily. Our territory only lowered its greenhouse gas emissions by 1.8 % when it would be necessary to reduce them by at least 5 % each year to comply with our national and international commitments. The forecasts for 2025 even settle at – 0.8 %, therefore providing for an upward return. What is left of the ambition of the country working country of the Paris climate agreement? Can it still straighten the bar?
