End of the war in Ukraine, end of life, agricultural law… the Pilgrim’s hopes for 2025
Talks between Ukraine and Russia
The end of the war? No, The Pilgrim does not take herself for Mrs. Irma, but the conflict in Ukraine could well end in 2025. With Donald Trump promising to end the war on his “first day” in the White House, negotiations with Vladimir Putin will be crucial. A possible meeting between the two men will be scrutinized by the whole world. “I am ready to do it, of course. At any time,” assured the master of the Kremlin. But at what cost to Ukrainians?
A large amputation of their territory? Russia in any case reiterates its objective of conquering the four partly occupied Ukrainian regions in the east and south of the country: Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhia. One thing is certain, with more than a million victims on both sides, the war has lasted too long.
Debt reduction
She has been the Arlesian of French politics for forty years. But a priority for François Bayrou, now Prime Minister. The task is arduous: at the end of 2024, the public debt reached 3,303 billion euros, or 113.7% of GDP. In this assembly without a majority for the host of Matignon, the equation seems impossible. However, it is the future of the country that is at stake, because without a breath of fresh air, France will not be able to maintain its capacity to invest or carry out essential public policies.
What about innovation, the overhaul of public services, the energy transition, the renewal of infrastructure, social cohesion? Reducing debt is also a duty towards future generations.
