Gardening. Our 4 tips for planting a tree in the fall
Which tree to plant in my garden?
Unlike a vegetable or ornamental plant, a tree will stay in your home for several decades. It is better to take the time to think carefully about the desired profile.
Do you especially want it to produce fruit? Flowers? Shadow? Next, what maximum height do you want for it? Last, decisive elements before choosing it: the local climate and your type of soil. You can then go see a nurseryman to discuss your choice. Or get a first idea by entering your criteria on a site like jardindupicvert.com
When is the best time to plant a tree?
Plant between the end of October and March, this is ideal to give the trees time to take root. Prefer them not too large, well balanced in volume between stems and roots. And packaged in bare roots (rather than in containers). If possible, several days – or even weeks – before, prepare a hole in the soil that you will loosen and enrich with compost.
On the big day, coat the roots with a praline (mixture of 1¸3 soil, 1¸3 water and 1¸3 manure or compost), then place them in the hole. Fill in up to the collar, then mulch all around.
