Habemus Papam! Relive the evening of the election of the new Pope Leo XIV

Habemus Papam! Relive the evening of the election of the new Pope Leo XIV

Peace be with you all!

Very expensive brothers and sisters, this is the first greeting of the risen Christ, the good pastor who gave his life for the herd of God. Me too, I would like this greeting of peace to enter your hearts, that it will join your families, all people, wherever they are, all peoples, all the earth.

Peace be with you!
It is the peace of resurrected Christ, a disarmed and disarming, humble and persevering peace. She comes from God, from this God who loves us all unconditionally.

We still have in the ear this weak but always courageous voice of Pope Francis who blessed Rome! The pope who blessed Rome gave his blessing to the whole world, that morning in Easter. Let me extend this same blessings:
God wants us good, God loves you all, and evil will not triumph!
We are all in the hands of God.

This is why, without fear, united hand in hand with God and between us, let’s go ahead.
We are disciples of Christ.
Christ walks before us.
The world needs its light.
Humanity needs him as a bridge by which God joins us by his love.

Help us, too, and let us help each other to build bridges, by dialogue, through the meeting, by uniting us all to be a unique people, always in peace.

Thanks to Pope Francis!
I also want to thank all the colleagues cardinals who chose me to be the successor of Peter and walk with you, like a united church, always seeking peace, justice, always working like men and women faithful to Jesus Christ, without fear, to proclaim the Gospel, to be missionaries.

I am a son of Saint Augustine, an Augustinian, who said: “With you, I am a Christian; For you, I am a bishop. »»
In this sense, we can all walk together towards this homeland that God has prepared for us.

In the church of Rome, a special greeting! (applause)
We must seek together to be a missionary church, a church which builds bridges, which opens the dialogue, always welcoming, like this place with open arms.
All, all those who need our charity, our presence, our dialogue and our love.

And if you allow me, a few words, a salvation to all those-and in particular to my dear diocese of Chiclayo, in Peru-where a faithful people accompanied their bishop, shared their faith and gave so much, so much to continue to be a church faithful to Jesus Christ.

To all of you, brothers and sisters of Rome, of Italy, of the whole world, we want to be a synodal church, a church on the march, a church which always seeks peace, which always seeks charity, which always wants to be close, especially of those who suffer.

Today, it is the day of supplication to the Virgin of Pompeii. Our mother Marie always wants to walk with us, to be close, to help us with her intercession and her love.

So I would like to pray with you.
Let us pray together for this new mission, for the whole Church, for peace in the world, and ask for this particular grace of Marie, our mother.

I greet you, Marie …
