This story of a meeting between a lawyer and a man accused of murdering his wife was found by my daughter, a lawyer, on Maître Mô’s blog, dedicated to justice. She felt that there was something powerful there. For three years, we worked to render as accurately as possible the commitment of my character ready to do anything to defend his client.

The place that inspires you to create?
Environments that are too beautiful draw me elsewhere, but don’t encourage me to create. My favorite place is the caravans on a shoot, between two scenes. For about twenty minutes, you’re alone: that’s where a lot of ideas come to me.
The music that makes you happy in the morning?
Charles Trenet, who evokes lightness, joy, nostalgia. The inventor of modern song.
A movie you could watch a hundred times?
Children of Paradise (by Marcel Carné, Editor’s note). I like stories of thwarted love. People who feel like they haven’t succeeded in their lives upset me. Regrets are the cancer of feelings.
A value you inherited?
Honesty, respect for others. My parents were full of love: knowing you are loved makes you want to take the plunge and lead an upright life.

I would tell her about a friend lost long ago in an accident. Her parents, very religious, found relief in knowing that their daughter was somewhere. But where is that somewhere?
You pass in front of a church. Do you go in?
I am Catholic. Entering a church has a meaning of course, but it is the will of men to build these buildings that amazes me the most, this chain of humanity that endures. I believe in the power of the spirit: when I speak to my parents, they are there.
