What to do on the morning of Holy Thursday?

Holy Thursday, in the morning, it is possible to pray to Psalm 22 (“The Lord is my shepherd …” to read here). Then it is recommended to pray a dozen of the rosary. I pray in particular for the Church, the bishops and the priests of the Eucharist. I also carry in my prayer those who often live the deprivation of Eucharist: persecuted Christians living their clandestine faith, isolated patients, prisoners, migrants … But also, I pray for the catechumens which will be baptized during the Pascale Vigil of the Holy Saturday.

What to do at noon during Holy Thursday?

After having traced a cross on the bread of the meal by giving thanks to the Lord, it is possible to pray to an Our Father followed by a Salve Regina.

What to do during the afternoon of Holy Thursday, with your children?

Young children pray above all with their bodies! You can make with them a small cardboard tunnel, symbol of the passage of death (Thursday and Friday) to life (Saturday evening and Sunday). At the entrance, make them draw a red heart (passion); Side out of the said-tunnel, a yellow sun (Easter)!

When ? April 17, 2025, Holy Thursday, around 8 p.m., 9 p.m.

Or ? Around the small table of your premier space, covered with a white tablecloth.

What to prepare? Breakfasts. Also arrange on the table the signs of the Eucharist (a cup filled with wine or grape juice, a plate, a basket of bread). And enough to live the gesture of the washing of the feet or hands: a large flared container, a carafe of water, a small fabric towel per person.

1st step: enter the Pascal mystery (5 minutes)

I sing a hymn: “Wisdom has drawn up a table” (D 580) (The words here).

The wisdom has drawn up a table / It invites men to the feast / come to the banquet of the son of man / eat and drink the Passover of God.

2nd step: give thanks to the Lord (2 minutes)

I sing an prayer : “Thank you, Lord Jesus Christ, for your word of life and your love. Tonight, you are with us: that this certainty reassures us and helps us to love each other, you who live for centuries of centuries. »»

3rd step: listen to the Word of God (10 minutes)

I turn on and distribute A night light per person.

I read aloud the text of the institution of the Eucharist by Jesus Christ : The 1st letter from Saint Paul Apostle to the Corinthians, chapter 11, verses 23 to 26 (the text here).

I make a sung acclamation : “Glory and praise to you, Lord Jesus! »(The lyrics here)

I have The night lights on the table.

I take a time of silence to meditate personally : What does Jesus Christ do? For what ? What meaning for us? We can rely on this meditation of Pope Francis (April 18, 2019): “The largest must serve the smallest. Who feels the largest must be a servant. »»

4th step: take the example of the Lord (10 minutes)

I sing a hymn : “Like your love” (D 218). (Words here)

One of the adults or the father in silence, realizes the gesture of the service : With the carafe, above the container, it pours water on the hands or feet of those who wish it. Meanwhile, the children draw the enema of the feet, drawings which they will place in front of the pride area, then give thanks to the Lord with their own words.

Or if I am alone : I offer my solitude to Jesus Christ.

I express a prayer of request or thank you to Jesus for his love : “For this moment with you, Jesus, thank you. / For all Christians united in your love, Jesus, thank you. / Sick, isolated people, Lord, have mercy. / … “

I recite ours: “And with you Lord, I can say: Our Father …”

5th step: Ensure and pray in the agony of Christ (5 minutes)

I invite young children to place themselves at the entrance to the little tunnel for a brief moment of silence. Then they repeat, at the invitation of their parents : “Tonight, Jesus, we are with you in Gethsemani in your agony, on this Holy Thursday, we are going towards your death on the cross of Golgotha with you! »»

The host can say : “Tonight, Jesus asks us to watch and pray with him because his passion for Calvary is approaching. Each little night light is a sign of our presence and affection with him. We are silent for a few minutes. »»

The host concludes : “Let the spirit of love, charity, chastity, combat and loyalty keep us in communion each other, and with all those who pray this evening to the Lord Christ. Holy Mother of God, pray for us. Easter”
