Puy du fou wins a prize for the best show in the world

Internationally awarded for its latest show “The mime and the star”, the Epesses theme park (Vendée) could open new performance venues abroad by 2030.

On Saturday March 16, Le Puy du Fou received the prize for best show in the world from the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA) for “The mime and the star”. This distinction, the most prestigious in the sector, rewards the work carried out by the French leisure complex. The show, presented for the first time a year ago, depicts the shooting of a silent film in 1914. The scenography of the show is unique: for the duration of a performance, spectators are taken to follow a giant tracking shot (moving a camera to follow the moving object), all in black and white.

“The mime and the star” represents a considerable budget of 20 million euros but its success is the height of this investment: in one year, the performance was seen by 2.6 million people. Already rewarded in 2012, the Vendée theme park finds itself honored by the TEA for the second time. “The prize shows that our country has beautiful things to show to the world,” Nicolas de Villiers, president of Puy du Fou, commented to our colleagues from Ouest-France. “I think it feels good at a time when the news is loaded with bad news.”

Puy du Fou also aims to have four parks by 2030. The first was inaugurated in Spain in 2021 and welcomed 1.1 million spectators last year. According to newspaper information The echoesthe next opening could take place in Walloon Belgium and an immersive show will soon open its doors in Shanghai (China).
