What you need to know about the adhan

There is more than one thing to know aboutcall to prayer. Thist adhan inviting the five prayers, penetrating our ears and entering our hearts… To do this, let’s set out to discover what you need to know about the adhan.

The true meaning of the adhan

Have you ever thought about true meaning of adhan ? Yet become so familiar having heard it thousands of times.

The muezzin calls for prayer, so before this call (adhan) the men divide into two groups:

  • First, the group that hastens and presses to respond to the call by rushing to prayer;
  • And second, the group that turns away from the adhan and pays no attention to it.

Let us be part of the right group and revive this call (adhan) in our hearts and in our lives.

Consequently, let’s see something to know on the latter.

Bilal, the first muezzin

According to the Ulema, the first to call for prayer was Bilal Ibn Rabah. Indeed, the proof is reported in the hadith Bukhari after Abdallah Ibn Omar who said :

“At first, Muslims gathered at prayer times without being called. Then they began to think of a way to call for prayer. »

In this regard, `Abd Allâh Ibn Zayd reported:

“When the Messenger of Allah ordered people to use bells as a means of calling to prayer in congregation, I saw in a dream a man carrying a bell. I asked him: “O servant of Allah, would you sell this bell?” He asked me: “What would you like to do with it?” I replied: “Call to prayer”. He said, “Would you like me to show you a better way?” I answered in the affirmative.

The man then said to me: “Say: Allahu Akbar Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest. I testify that there is no god except Allah x2. I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah x2. Hurry to prayer x2, Hurry to success x2. Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest. There is no god except Allah.

Then he stepped back a little and said: When the prayer is about to stand, say: “Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest. I testify that there is no god except Allah. I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. Hurry to prayer, Hurry to success. The time for prayer has arrived x2. Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, There is no god except Allah).

As soon as I woke up, I went to inform the Messenger of Allah about what I saw. He said: “It is a true vision, by the will of Allah. Go with Bilâl and tell him what you saw in a dream so that he may call to prayer, for he has a more melodious voice than yours.” `Abd Allah Ibn Zayd said: “I then got up with Bilal to teach him this formula and for him to call for prayer.” He continues: “Hearing this call from his home, `Umar Ibn Al-Khattab hastened to go out and said: “By Him Who sent you with the Truth, I have seen what he saw (in a dream) “. `Abd Allah Ibn Zayd said: “The Prophet said: “Praise be to Allah! » ». (Reported by Ahmed, Abou Daoud and Tirmidhi)

Some sunnan to practice while listening to the adhan

Would you like to know what are these sunnans to practice while listening to the adhan? Here they are :

  • First of all: respond to the muezzin

Indeed, the Prophet (Sallallahu ‘alayhi wa salam) said:

“When the muezzin says “Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest” and one of you repeats after him “Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest”.

Then, the muezzin says “I testify that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah”, he (one of you) repeats “I testify that he There is no deity worthy of worship besides Allah.

Then, the muezzin says “I testify that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah”, he repeats “I testify that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah”.

“Come to prayer” and he says after him “There is no strength nor power except through Allah”.

“Come to success” and he says after him: “There is no strength and power except through Allah.”

Then the muezzin says: “Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest” and he repeats “Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest”.

Finally the muezzin said: “There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah.” And he repeats with all his heart: “There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah”.

He will enter Paradise. »Reported by Mouslim

  • The second: the prayer on the Prophet (Sallallahu ‘alayhi wa salam):

Indeed, Mohammed (Sallallahu ‘alayhi wa salam) said:

“When you hear the muezzin, repeat what he says, then pray over me, for whoever prays over me Allah will pray over him ten times. »Reported by Mouslim

  • Then saying “I accept Allah as Lord, Islam as religion and Mohammed (Sallallahu ‘alayhi wa salam) as Messenger”:

The proof is the words of the Messenger (Sallallahu ‘alayhi wa salam):

“He who, when he hears the muezzin says: “I testify that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, the Alone without partner. And I testify that Mohammad is His servant and Messenger. I accept Allah as Lord, Islam as religion and Muhammad, Sallallahu ‘alayhi wa salam as Messenger. » Allah forgives him his sins. Reported by Mouslim

  • Finally, implore Allah for yourself:

In the collection At Tirmidhi, according to Anas, the Prophet (Sallallahu ‘alayhi wa salam) said:

“The invocation between the adhan and the iqama is not rejected”. Reported by at-Tirmidhi

Namely: the iqama is the second call to prayer, shorter than the first and which occurs a few minutes after the adhan.

It is therefore not negligible to multiply the invocations! Let’s bring back these sunnan!

The invocation to say after the adhan

Once you have listened to the adhan and applied the sunnan during it, there is an invocation that weighs heavily in the balance.

Therefore, here it is:

According to Jabir Ibn ‘Abdillah (may Allah be pleased with him and his father), the Prophet (may Allah’s prayer and His salvation be upon him) said: “He who says when he hears the adhan: “O Allah, Master of this perfect call and of the prayer that we are going to perform, give to Muhammad the power to intercede and the place of honor. And resurrect him in the praiseworthy position You promised him. (For You never break Your promise). »

«The water is in the water

He will benefit from my intercession on the day of judgment.” (Reported by Bukhari in his Sahih n°614)
