advice from Blanche de Richemont

The point of view of Blanche de Richemont, travel writer

Dear Sandrine, I have the feeling that youth is not really made for sedentary pleasures but, on the contrary, for discovering nature, exercising and wandering. It doesn’t seem necessary to motivate your nieces to accompany you. Go for a walk together every day without asking their opinion. Because children don’t necessarily know what is good for them. Faced with a choice, they immediately refuse what takes them out of their bearings, then they marvel.

Even if your nieces are reluctant at first, they will surely return happy from these escapades with you. Help them enjoy walking in the forest by teaching them the names of trees and birds, offering them challenges, and engaging in big discussions on topics that you rarely discuss together. Because we never speak the same way while walking. The steps free the speech which then gains depth and freedom.

Push the path a little further every day so that they feel proud of themselves. Let them come to you to explore another way of being in the world. Perhaps they will then discover the joy of coming home with their cheeks rosy from the fresh air.
