Are the fasts of Lent and Ramadan different?
Ramadan’s fast is a lot of talk about him because he is very practiced by Muslims. The Ramadan of Muslims and the Lent of Christians are very different. Ramadan’s fast prepares believers to receive the Koran which is recited every evening. In Islam, it is a law of God to which one must obey.
Lent is not obedience to a law. It is a time to make yourself available to what God means and to let us transform by Him. We are trying to see what is clogging our life and freeing us.
The church encourages us to fast in order to feel in our body hunger and lack. She asks us to do it in all modesty: “When you fast, perfume your head, wash your face so as not to show the men you fast, but to your father who is there, in secret, and your father who sees you in secret will return it to you. »(Mt 6, 16.)
