Black Friday: Black is black
It’s an event that sets the tone. Friday November 29 was the Black Friday (Black Friday). A day of promotions invented in the 1930s in the United States and which had the merit of getting traders out of the red: by switching back to positive, they could write their accounts… in black ink! But what am I saying? This is the Black Friday since mid-November already. From year to year, like a (black) tide, this commercial event spreads across the calendar between Halloween and Christmas. Note the recent invention of a Cyber Monday, then a Cyber Week for those who have neglected to empty their wallet by purchasing electronic products.
No one should be forgotten… We are all consumers, needing a coat here, a vacuum cleaner there. But I refuse this determination to transform us into overconsumers. So first and foremost we need a planet where life is good. The “Green Friday” collective is launching a campaign this year to raise awareness of the environmental and social cost of false promotions. Because there is also some trickery in the air. The UFC-Que Choisir shows each year that discounts are not always sincere: the crossed-out price was already a few weeks or even a few days before this famous Friday.
“Black is black,” sang Johnny. By not giving in to the proposed frenzy, we still have hope…
