Former priest Bernard Preynat, convicted of sexual assault on a minor, is dead

Sentenced to five years in prison for criminal acts committed between 1971 and 1991, the man was recently released on an electronic bracelet, with great discretion. The reasons for his death, at this time, do not seem suspicious.

A new page is being turned in this affair which was brought to light in 2015, after complaints from former scouts against their chaplain at the time. The one who was still a priest could have molested several thousand children, according to one of the lawyers for the civil parties. Several reports had already been made before 2015 regarding Bernard Preynat in previous years, but the man had been kept in place. A mistake which led, a few years later, to the resignation of Cardinal Philippe Barbarin. Bernard Prenayt, for his part, was returned to the secular state in 2019, following a canonical decision.
