How to purify the air in your home naturally? Our 4 tips
1. Use fewer household products
We don’t always realize it, but the air inside us is polluted, sometimes more than that in the street. Aerosol sprays, cleaning products, etc. represent all sources of pollution that can release chemical substances. To avoid them, we advise you to use a single multi-use product to minimize interactions of different substances. Or even better: favor traditional cleaning tips based on white vinegar or black soap.
2. Ventilate your home 5 to 10 minutes a day
The Environment and Energy Management Agency (Ademe) recommends ventilating your home for five to ten minutes every day to renew the indoor air. Opening the windows for a short time has no influence on energy costs. This period of time is too short to cool the walls and interior of your home. So don’t worry about having to overuse your heating system to compensate for the lost degrees.
3. Candles, incense… limit the use of scented products
“A healthy habitat is one that smells nothing,” says Lucile Berliat Camara, environment and health manager of the Qualitel association. Even if they attract with their good smell, fragrant products such as incense, candles and room fragrances emit VOCs (volatile organic compounds): gases and vapors which can have carcinogenic or toxic effects on the man.
If used occasionally, remember to ventilate the room after use.
4. Maintain your ventilation
In addition to ventilation by opening windows, controlled mechanical ventilation (VMC) in your home can help you renew the air in your rooms. We advise you to regularly dust your ventilation grilles using a damp cloth. Once a year, do not hesitate to call a professional who will ensure the general functioning and the possible need to change the filters.
