Israeli NGOs accuse the Hebrew state of organized famine, genocide and depopulation

Genocide. The word, terrible, was used for the first time since the start of the conflict by two Israeli human rights organizations, B’tselem (1) and Physicians for Human Rights – Israel (Phri, Doctors for Human Rights) on July 28. “Israel conducts coordinated and deliberate action aimed at destroying the Palestinian society in the Gaza Strip …” writes the first in a report entitled: “Our Genocide” (our genocide). The second notes “a deliberate and progressive dismantling of the Gaza health system and, with it, of the survival capacity of its population. Which is equivalent to a genocide. »»

The definition and appreciation of a possible genocide in progress are the subject of harsh debates, but impossible to elude the question which arises a little more than a year and a half after the attack by Hamas in the Kibbutz neighboring Gaza: What are the objectives of the war by the government of Benyamin Netanyahu? According to the convention for the prevention and repression of the crime of genocide adopted by the United Nations in 1948, the genocide is defined by two elements: an intention – destroying a national, ethnic, racial or religious group in whole or part; And an act -Mermertre, serious damage to the physical or mental integrity of the members of the group, hinders births or submission to conditions of existence having to lead to death.

The day after the pogrom led by Hamas, the Israeli Prime Minister set the objectives of the iron swords: “Eradicating Hamas, release the hostages, prevent Gaza from remaining a threat to the security of Israel.” But on the ground, TSAhal (the Israeli army) commits acts relating to war crimes, as defined by international treaties: voluntarily targeting non -military objectives, deporting groups, practicing intentional homicides.

Hide, move and kill

About 60,000 people, mostly civilians, have been killed since the start of operations, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health, controlled by Hamas. Among them, 18,500 children whose names were published by The Washington Post in its July 30 edition. Of the 36 Gaza hospitals, only 17 are partially operational according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

The population (2.1 million people for a territory 24 times smaller than Corsica) lives in the middle of ruins: more than 9 out of 10 buildings are damaged or destroyed, estimates the UN. She endures a famine “created from scratch by the Israeli government”, accuses Isabelle Defourny, president of Doctors Without Borders on France Inter, July 29 -which the Hebrew State refutes. Dozens of Palestinians are killed every day, especially with the rare points of distribution of food aid, entrusted by Israel to the poorly named Humanitarian Foundation of Gaza.

These facts are documented, even if Tsahal targets Palestinian journalists and prohibits the entry of journalists into the enclave (2). Above all, another objective of the war waged by the power coalition in Israel appears more and more clearly: depopulation Gaza. The idea was formulated by Donald Trump. Receiving Benyamin Netanyahu on February 4 at the White House, the President of the United States shamelessly drew the project to “clean up”, that is to say to transfer its inhabitants to “safer” places like Egypt or Jordan.

Emigrate the population

The idea is becoming clear: on July 7, Israel Katz, Minister of Defense, described the project to create a “humanitarian city” on the ruins of Rafah, in the south of the band. 600,000 people would be massaged “at first”. They could only get out of it only leaving Gaza for foreigners. A perspective denounced as a possible “ethnic cleaning” by the former Prime Minister of Israel Ehud Olmert (2006-2009) in the pages of the British daily The Guardian .

The army must move forward in this direction, confirms the far -right minister, Itamar Ben Gvir, on the Israeli channel Chanel 14, on July 29: “You have to go there, occupy and complete one area after another. War until the end. Encourage emigration. The next day, with three other coalition ministers and eighteen deputies, Ben Gir signs a letter asking the Minister of Defense to approve a visit to the North of the Gaza Strip by settlers, in order to set up future Israeli communities. This land “is the living heart of the land of Israel, argue the signatories, the return of the Jewish people to these places is not only a strategic stage. »»

1) Hebrew “in his image”, quoted in the book of Genesis (1, 27): “God created the human in his image”.

2) More than 200 of them have been killed since October 2023, according to Reporters Sans Frontières.
