“Jesus is the first resistance hero in history”

You are adapting a successful comic book to the cinema Children of the resistance. In a few words, make our mouths water…

1939. War breaks out, France falters. In a village, the Occupation imposes its law and fear sets in. But three children refuse to give in. A story that reminds us that courage has no age.

What does this eighth feature film reveal about you?

My attachment to essential values: sincerity, loyalty and courage to remain faithful to one’s principles without giving in to hatred. While working on the Resistance, I was struck by these anonymous people ready to risk their lives to save strangers. One question remains: what would I have done in their place?

The movie you could watch a hundred times?

City Lights, by Charlie Chaplin, which reveals the human condition with humor and tenderness.

You have three days, a backpack and no car. Where are you going?

Discovering the forests of Île-de-France. I trace my route from Saint-Germain-en-Laye to Maisons-Laffitte, before heading towards Poissy.

What if you had a regret?

Not having pursued classical guitar. After the conservatory, the solitude of the soloist on stage frightened me. At 25, I chose to join the production company of my uncle Jacques Perrin, who opened the way to cinema for me… even if I still admire the great solo guitarists.

The object that crosses generations in your family?

Original editions of plays handed down by my actor grandparents. They symbolize our artistic heritage and the creativity that has been bequeathed to me.

A quality that you will be proud to pass on to your two daughters.

Reliability. I grew up with an unpredictable father and I vowed to never repeat that. For me, a parent must keep their word: this is the basis of trust.

A solidarity initiative that touched you?

The minute of silence in schools after the assassination of Samuel Paty. This brought back a memory from my adolescence: Farewell Mr Professorby Hugues Auffray. Some students sang it in tribute to the teacher.

For you, Jesus, it is…

The first resistance hero in history. Facing an established religious order, he fought against opulence and hypocrisy and defended a generous and compassionate vision. His commitment earned him condemnation and crucification.
