Léon XIV will publish his first exhortation on October 9
The first major text of the Pontificate of Léon XIV must be published this October 9. Entitled Dilexit te (I loved you, in Latin)this apostolic exhortation has actually been largely prepared during the previous pontificate. To signify this heritage of his Argentine predecessor, Léon XIV also chose to sign it on October 4, Saint Francis of Assisi day. According to the Holy See, this exhortation will focus “on the love of the poor”.
Starting from the Gospels and taking up the example of many saints, this text should also return to the teaching of the popes, in the forefront of which Léon XIII (1878-1903), considered as the modern founder of the social doctrine of the Church and largely in honor of which the current pontiff chose his name. According to well -informed sources, the figures of religious founders working with the poorest should also be mentioned.
These different facets of the poor service are found behind the people chosen by Léon XIV to present his text to the press, a few minutes before its official publication. The Cardinal Michael Czerny, prefect of the Dicastery for the Service of Full Human Development, Cardinal Konrad Krajewski, prefect of the Dicastery for the Service of Charity service, as well as Brother Frédéric-Marie Le Méhauté (Franciscans) will intervene. Jesus.
Starting a pontificate by taking up a text developed by its predecessor is usual for a pope and marks the continuity between pontiffs. The first encyclical of Pope Francis, Porta Fideiwas thus largely the work of Benoît XVI. The first encyclical of the latter,Deus Caritas isthus resuming in part of the unfinished writings of John Paul II.
