“Music weaves links between earth and sky”

Your show is soberly titled “Recital of sacred songs”. Can you present it to us in a few words?

Monroe: It is composed of liturgical tunes, hymns and extracts from classical operas. In each city, I will sing with a local master or vocal ensemble.

What does this choice to sing in churches reveal about you?

I started singing in church, in my small town of Brigham City, Utah. It was there that I understood the power of music which weaves links between people, but also between heaven and earth.

Your latest cultural favorite?

The group Pentatonix, which sings pop and rock a cappella. I saw them live in Salt Lake City a few months ago. It was magical.

What music makes you happy in the morning?

The impossible dream, the song from the musical Don Quixote, which Jacques Brel translated and sang in French, under the title La Quête: “dreaming an impossible dream…”

A book you could reread 100 times.

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.

A Proust madeleine?

Every time I see paintings, I think of my grandmother who was a painter and passed down many paintings to us.

The person who meant the most in your life?

My parents! They helped me believe in myself and do everything to achieve my dreams.

An object that crosses generations?

A very beautiful leather briefcase, made by my grandfather to store his scores. My grandmother gave it to me recently.

A guilty pleasure?

Mango in all its forms.

A place where you like to recharge your batteries?

Nature in general. Whether it’s the mountains of Utah in which I often hiked with my four older brothers or the Bois de Meudon that I discovered this year while taking long walks there.

A quality that you would be proud to pass on to your children?

I’m only 17, give me some time! (laughs). The most important thing is the love of music, which opens us to a broad knowledge of life and helps us to build ourselves.

You meet Pope Leo XIV. What question is burning on your lips?

What is the most important thing you have learned in life?

For you, is Jesus?

The savior of the world. The perfect example of love, kindness, charity. He is always there for us.
