“Our role is to show what is the fantasy behind the myths”

Do you feel the interest of young people in this subject?

Yes, for history and culture in general. I am wary of the talk about young people being less interested in it than their elders. Those I meet at book signings are sometimes 11-12 years old! As for misinformation on social networks, those over 40 are sometimes more affected than the generations that follow.

What topics capture their attention the most?

Firstly, those they already know, like the Second World War. They are then fond of everything relating to mysteries, conspiracies, for the romantic image attached to them. Our role is to show them everything that is the fantasy behind the myths.

Finally, what touches everyday life pleases: knowing how we slept in the Middle Ages is one of the episodes that worked best on my YouTube channel. Young people need a concrete story that resonates with what they are experiencing.

How do you see your role?

I am not a teacher and my goal is not to replace them. Our actions are complementary. I seek to decompartmentalize history and venture into the economy, the environment, etc. Because everything is a story and I want to show that even the pen I hold in my hand has one!
