Plastic, from nightmare to dreams
At the bend of the exchange of wishes at Pilgrim a colleague told me a recent dream. She was reprimanded by a friend when putting microfiber rags in her washing machine. “It will pollute the oceans!” She said. More and more synthetic, our fabrics and clothes drop in the water of our detergents of billions of microplastic particles which, ultimately, interfere in living organisms, from plankton to humans. What was not my pride to fly to the aid of his bad conscience by announcing that, since January 1, 2025, all the washing machine put on the market had to have a filter holding microplastics. Finally, the nation was going to take charge of a responsibility that should not weigh on individuals. Las! Victim of government instability, the decree establishing this measure was still not published in early January …
The filters constitute a first step, even if they are far from being the panacea: the real solutions are rather on the side of a legislation which would promote the eco -design of our clothes and would sanction their overproduction, which encourages us to buy always more. This is the aim of a bill passed in the National Assembly on March 14, 2024 … which is still awaiting its visit to the Senate. During the wishes next year, microplastics can stop polluting to the sleep of my colleague!
