“The arrival of the future” of Cédric Klapisch, a dazzling fiction

Presented in the official selection, the new feature film by Cédric Klapisch sheds light on the present thanks to a tall good in the past. The film indeed crosses two different temporalities: the first thread of the story takes place in 2025 while the second led us in 1895, a historic period dear to the heart of the filmmaker (“what moves me”, his first short film, took place at that time).

In this new fiction, the characters of Seb, Abdel, Céline and Guy embody distant cousins who have just inherited a family home left abandoned.

A tasty and virtuoso fiction

By exploring it, they embarked on the traces of their ancestor Adèle who, in 1895, mysteriously left his native Normandy to join Paris. The capital is then in full cultural effervescence: impressionism has just been born, at the same time as photography. This return to the family roots leads the four cousins to personal conscience taking which would probably not have been possible without this retrospective look.

The filmmaker decided to trust two young actors on which the film rests. He indeed entrusted the two main roles to Suzanne Lindon (Adèle) and Abraham Wapler (SEB). Whether staged in the 19th or 21st century, in Klapisch youth always has a taste for joy, challenges and optimism. A tasty and virtuoso fiction that comes out in theaters on the day of its presentation in Cannes. A nice gift for the public.
