The entire spiritual will of Pope Francis

“In the name of the Most Holy Trinity. Amen.

Feeling that the twilight of my earthly life is approaching, and with a strong hope in eternal life, I wish to express my will only with regard to the place of my burial.

I have always entrusted my life and my priestly and episcopal ministry to the mother of our Lord, the Most Holy Mary. This is why I ask that my fatal body rests, pending the day of the resurrection, in the papal basilica Sainte-Marie-Majeure.

I hope that my last terrestrial trip ends in this very old Marian sanctuary where I went to pray at the beginning and at the end of each apostolic trip in order to confide with confidence my intentions to the immaculate mother and to thank her for her docile and maternal attention.

I ask that my tomb be prepared in the niche located in the lateral nave between the Pauline chapel (chapel of the Salus Populi Romani) and the SFORZA chapel of the aforementioned papal basilica, as indicated in the attachment.

The sepulcher must be in the ground, simple, without any particular decoration and with the only inscription: Franciscus.

The costs of preparing my burial will be covered by the sum of the benefactor made available to transfer to the Papal Basilica Sainte-Marie-Majeure and for which I gave appropriate instructions to Mgr Rolandas Makrickas, extraordinary commissioner of the Liberian chapter.

May the Lord give the deserved reward to those who loved me and who continue to pray for me. The suffering that has manifested itself in the last part of my life is the offering to the Lord for peace in the world and the fraternity between peoples.
