Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke*
22nd Sunday of ordinary time. Year C
One day of Sabbath, Jesus had entered the house of a chief of the Pharisees to have his meal there, and the latter observed him. Jesus said a parable to the guests when he noticed how they chose the first places, and he said to them: “When someone invites you to wedding, will not settle in first place, lest he invited another more than you. Then, the one who invited you, you and him, will come to tell you: “give in your place”; And, at that moment, you will go, full of shame, take the last place. On the contrary, when you are invited, will put yourself in the last place. So when the one who invited you, he will say to you: “My friend, advances above”, and it will be an honor for you in the eyes of all those who will be at the table with you. Indeed, whoever rises will be lowered; and that will be lowered will be high. »»
Jesus also said to those who invited him: “When you give a lunch or a dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers, your parents, nor rich neighbors; Otherwise, they too would give you the invitation and it would be for you a donation in return. On the contrary, when you give a reception, invite poor, crippled, lame, blind; Happy will you be, because they have nothing to give you back: it will be given to you to the resurrection of the righteous. »»
