The Gospel of the Mass of August 10, 2025

The Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke*

At that time, Jesus said to his disciples: “Being without fear, a little herd: your father found it good to give you the kingdom. Sell what you have and give it in alms. Make yourself scholarships that do not wear out, an inexhaustible treasure in the heavens, where the thief does not approach, where the moth does not destroy. Because where your treasure is, there too will be your heart. (Start of brief reading: At that time, Jesus said to his disciples 🙂 Stay in service outfit, your belt around the kidneys, and your lamps lit. Be like people waiting for their master when they return from the wedding, to open it as soon as they arrive and strike at the door. Happy these servants that the master, on his arrival, will find watching. Amen, I tell you: it is he who, the belt around the kidneys, will make them take place at the table and pass to serve them. If he returns around midnight or around three in the morning and find them like this, happy are they! You know it well: if the master of the house had known what time the thief would come, he would not have let the wall of his house unravel. You too are ready: it is at a time when you will not think that the Son of man will come. (End of brief reading)

*Chapter 12, verses 32 to 48 (brief reading: verses 35 to 40).

Other readings: Book of wisdom (chapter 18, verses 6 to 9); Psalm 32 (33); Letter to the Hebrews (chapter 11, verses 1 to 2 and 8 to 12).

To have or to be?

Previously, there was talk of a rich person who piled up in many granaries all his property. Here, our father has found it good to give us the kingdom: what a contrast between possess, keep in the same way and receive the gift of another, our father! Selling to give may seem contradictory and yet it is traffic between each other, and not everyone for themselves. Isn’t the kingdom this interior space in us, space from another – unassailable, breathtaking, neither by mites, nor by the thief?

So many figures to signify what takes us away from it: our assets, our centration on ourselves, our judgments, our indifference to others, etc. Our heart is our true treasure, which makes us beings of the relationship, of the meeting between us and with God. To the small herd that we are to be ready to receive the master in order to celebrate our alliance with him, in a feverish and joyful expectation at the same time.
