This Sunday, 1,000 runners are expected for the “Paris churches tour”, organized by the Holy Games association.
The “Paris churches tour”. This is the next sporting event on the program of the Holy Games association, created in April 2023 at the initiative of the Church of France. As the Olympics approach, the latter is increasing its proposals in order to make Catholics part of the event. A fun way to demonstrate one's faith to the general public, but also to affirm the importance of physical activity in the life of a believer.
Charles Jaunez, a forty-year-old father of four children, has been refining for eighteen months, with his team, the organization of this original race which will link a 10 km loop from Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral to the Madeleine Church, passing by the Notre-Dame-de-la-Médaille-miraculeuse chapel, rue du Bac, or the Sacré-Cœur of Montmartre. “Respect, sharing, surpassing oneself: the values of sport are close to those of my faith,” says this digital marketing executive, a hiking and running enthusiast. By shining the spotlight on churches, the race will “illustrate their spiritual and social role in our communities”.
Effort, a prayer
However, it is not a simple digestive stroll. “The 10 km format is both short enough for amateurs, and long enough for those looking for performance,” underlines Charles. Supported by a timing company, more than 200 volunteers will provide supervision and security, “the number one priority”. Between 500 and 1,000 runners are expected.
“In a world where our minds are occupied by screens, running disconnects us, while connecting us to new people,” he appreciates. And added: “When running, body, soul and spirit unite in a common effort. Basically, it is a form of prayer. » Intended for walkers and families, a 5 km circuit is organized in parallel.
