Crazy like a prophet

Well done French people!

Sometimes it feels good to be wrong. Judge for yourself. In my last column, I spoke with sadness of this count carried out by a motorway company using intelligent cameras, and which pointed to a French resurgence of single-person driving (only one person on board). A few days later, the National Observatory of Daily Carpooling published figures showing exactly the opposite: the number of motorists having shared their vehicle with a stranger would have jumped by 36% in one year! Information from the 23 short distance operators (Karos, FranceCovoit, etc.) with which local authorities, businesses and even university campuses are engaged to develop this good practice. As someone who despaired of seeing territorial financial incentive policies remain ineffective (at least 100 euros for 10 carpools offered as a driver), my relief is immense.

Indifferent to the fact that 75% of the energy used by their cars is used to transport empty seats, the French? Nope… Other figures will perhaps show the opposite in a few months. But for now, faced with the urgency of mobilizing consciences, I need to believe in it and shout: bravo, French people!
