A selection of films to marvel at the beauties of nature
“Journey to the South Pole”, by Luc Jacquet
Documentary. Duration: 1 hour 22 minutes, ages 14 and up, released December 20.
Oscar winner in 2006 for his documentary The emperor’s walk, Luc Jacquet returns to the big screens to share with us his first love with the southern lands. Head due south for a magnetic epic in the wake of the great explorers of the 19th century. It begins in Tierra del Fuego, its dizzying peaks, before continuing in the crash of the waves at Cape Horn, to finally reach the kingdom of ice, with which the director fell in love. By opting for black and white, he celebrates the ethereal beauty of virgin nature, the same one that has continued to attract him since his first stays in Antarctica, thirty years ago now. Luc Jacquet films an emotional experience, punctuated by the polar silence and the cracking of the ice floe. Cinematographic UFO, Journey to the South Pole fascinates and enchants for those who know how to let themselves be carried away by this personal wandering to the other side of the world. And for those who want to continue the adventure, go to the Musée des Confluences, in Lyon, for the Terra Incognita exhibition, until March 3, 2024. Estelle Couvercelle.
