A victim compensation system will be opened
A year after the shock of the first revelations on sexual violence committed by Father Pierre, the Emmaüs association and the Conference of the Bishops of France (CEF) announced, on July 9, the opening, in September, of a financial repair system. That same day, a fourth report from the Egaé cabinet, responsible for gathering the testimonies of the priest’s potential victims, revealed twelve new, including those of seven minors at the time of the facts. In total, 45 people are recognized as victims.
The Recognition and Repair Commission, created in 2021 following the Ciase report, will take care of the system. It will be funded by the equity of Emmaus and CEF, without having to use donations. Henri Grouès – his real name – was known for his commitment to the poorest as a priest and founder of the Emmaüs movement. Died in 2007, he cannot be prosecuted. The facts being prescribed, no judicial investigation will be open and no one will be worried about non-denunciation.
