(Chronicle) At the heart of the ambient chaos, China establishes itself as a model of stability

As the United States launched into an unprepared war which sows chaos in the world, China skillfully poses itself as an alternative: that of the reasonable great power. It is thus taking advantage of a certain disengagement of American forces from their allies in Asia to offer its services to countries which, like the Philippines, doubt the unwavering support of Uncle Sam.

China, an ally of Iran, made calibrated remarks (the complete opposite of Donald Trump), calling for de-escalation while disapproving the American-Israeli offensive. With Pakistan, China has proposed a peace plan. Tehran is cleaning it up. The Revolutionary Guards let Chinese tankers cross the Strait of Hormuz.

Like the rest of the world, the Chinese giant is suffering from the drop in tradenotably exports, but it has in its genes, in its very Constitution, a priority that it has carried out: self-sufficiency guaranteeing its independence.

Thus, thanks to a spectacular development of renewables, it is less dependent on oil and gas from the Gulf. Not to mention that it imports some from Russia with which it has negotiated a friendship alliance. A partnership where she dictates her law, as Moscow needs her.

Donald Trump postponed his visit to Beijing, scheduled for early April, until mid-May. We can imagine his embarrassment at presenting himself without claiming a victory. Because the rise of China is the other American obsession with the Middle East, much more than Ukraine and these European “quitters”.

The Trump administration is worried as well as the Chinese presence in the Americas, for example in Panama. She fears its establishment in Greenland. Beijing is increasingly uniting the “global South”. It is also the big rival in advanced technologies, rare metals, etc.

And then there is the democracy of the island of Taiwan that Xi Jinping is determined to recover when the time comes. The Taiwanese, who rely so much on American deterrence, have much to worry about.
