Cyril Féraud “I like bringing generations together”

This month you are hosting four Saturday evening evenings on France 2. Tell us more…

The Floor is the big soap opera of January. French variety, famous monuments or international symbols: the questions appeal to the general culture of one hundred candidates, in a friendly atmosphere.

What does this taste for animation reveal about you?

At a time when everyone is isolating one-on-one with their screen, I like the idea of bringing generations together in front of the television. I believe in its unifying power.

The show you could watch a thousand times?

Moulin rouge, in musical comedy, a genre that fascinates me. I go to Broadway in New York once a year to see these shows. The sets, the staging and the costumes dazzle me. I have seen twenty-five so far.

Your favorite book?

Bel-Ami, by Maupassant, certain passages of which I know by heart. Even after climbing the social ladder, the main character of this novel does not find happiness. This is the best lesson ever. Having ambition is good, but not to the point of sacrificing your morals on the altar of careerism.

A quality that you would be proud to pass on to your son?

I would like him to be passionate. No matter what makes him tick, I won’t restrain him. My parents let me go to Paris, at 17, to fulfill my dream of television. I can never thank them enough for this trust.

The Proust madeleine from your childhood?

A fake microphone made by my grandfather when I dreamed of being a presenter, at 4 years old. He wore a yellow ring, the color my microphones always wear. This symbolic detail reminds me of where I come from.

An inspiring place?

French Polynesia, discovered during filming, where the role of ancestors is essential. The power of Polynesian traditions moves me.

For what cause would you mobilize?

I sponsor the association Les lutins du Phoenix, whose volunteers dress up as superheroes to visit children hospitalized in pediatric cancer care.

A guardian angel on your shoulder?

My father Michel, who died five years ago. I know that he remains present, guiding my choices and protecting me.
