one million pilgrims expected in the Vatican
A million young people, one hundred and six-six countries, twenty-world French. The figures speak for themselves: the youth responded well for their jubilee week, the “most anticipated” moment of all holy year, according to its great organizer the Cardinal Rino Fisichella.
And the church awaits them! The Vatican indicated that 270 parishes, 400 schools and 40 extracurricular sites had mobilized to accommodate all these pilgrims.
Multiple highlights
Many times planned throughout this week. Tuesday evening, the opening mass Place Saint Pierre, chaired by Mgr Rino Fisichella, will mark the start of the session. On Wednesday, young French people are invited to pass all together the holy door of the Saint Jean de Latran basilica.
Santos, the national network of 25-35 year olds carried by the Conference of Bishops of France, offers French pilgrims a special day on Thursday, July 31, where shows, round tables, workshops and conferences will follow one another at the French Lycée in Rome.
Friday, a “day of reconciliation” is planned for the famous Cirque Maxime: 200 confessionals and a thousand priests will offer the sacrament of reconciliation to young people.
The young jubilee was initially to end with the canonization of the blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati on August 3. With the death of Pope Francis, the date was finally postponed to September 7.
