Resistant sewing
Faced with the destruction of the living, everyone draws up the moral dikes he can. It is a form of inner necessity: blocking our values most head -on. For example, I decided to never order anything on this disposable fashion platform, namesake of “chain” or “China” (depending on the pronunciation chosen).
Alas, the surge of this textile giant, which uploads several thousands of new models a day at the price of immense environmental and human damage*, is powerful … I found myself as splashed last month, when my daughter introduced me to the outfit of her end -of -year dance show. A high set and white pants, ordered by the professor on the said platform … with the 20 euros whose destination I did not know by giving them.
What could I have done elsewhere? Offer to make the costume myself? I don’t know how to sew. This brutal awareness reminded me of this photo of the Mahatma Gandhi seated in a suit in front of a wheel in 1925. The non-violent leader had invited the Indians to boycott the textiles of the British occupier and to find a form of freedom by weaving themselves, by hand, their clothes.
A powerful call that could inspire new resistance to the enslavement of hyper-consumption that the legislator itself struggles to regulate. Okay, come on, sewing, I’m going!
