“To doubt God, isn’t it better to believe in Him? »
Among your very diverse news, you sign the preface of the book All of Devos. What does this say about you?
One of my previous shows, composed from the texts of Raymond Devos, was called I have doubts.
This preface is a way of continuing my admiring relationship with him. Raymond Devos made people laugh with God, the stars, the human condition… My attachment allows me to try to distance myself from the upheavals of the world!
Your latest crush?
Annette, a show designed and directed by Clémentine Colpin. Theater that is both documentary and poetic which explores the life of a woman.
The Proust madeleine from your childhood?
Marcel Pagnol. At the time, at 8:30 p.m., black and white films made it possible to hear fantastic dialogues carried by great actors. At Pagnol, the picturesque flirts with melancholy. When you read it, you inevitably have the Aubagne accent in your head.
You have three days, a backpack and no car. Where are you going?
This is exactly the project I have with a friend. We’ll go to Scotland: lakes, mountains and, in the evening, beer and darts!
A humanitarian initiative that touches you?
The NGO Partage, which takes care of children all over the world. I am regularly in contact with children from Haiti introduced to theater and writing which could give them the desire to imagine a better future.
You meet Pope Leo. What questions are burning on your lips?
I will ask him if he is convinced that God exists. Does feeling His presence necessarily make you better? Isn’t doubting God the same thing as believing in Him better? I will ask him if it would not be better to have a God that no religion would have the right to use.
For you, Jesus, it is…
Jesus reminds me of a song that I co-wrote, “Little Jesus, you disappointed me…”. I played it to an old lady friend of mine, 101 years old this year and for whom faith is a pillar. With a gentle smile, Raymonde said to me: “Don’t you think we disappointed him a little too?”
You are offered eternal life. Do you sign?
No. I have the impression that the happiness of life is linked to the ephemeral nature of existence.
