“You have to follow your desires”
After a sabbatical away from television sets, you are back on M6. What did you do during this interlude?
I prepared and released my first album Nina . A reinterpretation, in the form of a tribute, of the songs of Nina Simone, the American diva. I also gave a series of concerts.
What does this experience reveal about you?
The stage, more than a TV set, requires a posture of humility. Singing in front of an audience allowed me to overcome my shyness and discover myself even better.
By leaving your position as presenter on M6, you took a risk, that of not returning to television…
We cannot live with the fear of losing our place. We must dare to follow our desires, because we each carry more freedom within us than we think.
How do you balance your professional, artistic and family lives?
Each one requires a different energy. That’s why I set aside a very suitable time for them. It’s a question of organization.
A quality you want to pass on?
Generosity. My parents strive to make people happy. If everyone acted like them, the world would be a better place.
A good plan to reconnect with nature?
I like going to the banks of the Seine in Paris and I enjoy walks in the forests of Île-de-France. Nature is full of immense treasures.
Who would you dream of interviewing?
Martin Luther King, whom I would ask how he was able to be so strong in adversity. I would also like to meet Beyoncé, this feminist singer who is so influential.
What cause would you mobilize for?
I support the Amazone project, dedicated to women from overseas with breast cancer who are following their treatment in mainland France. (Kareen Guiock Thuram is from Guadeloupe, Editor’s note) . I am also a patron of APIPD, an association that fights against sickle cell disease.
For you, Jesus, it is…
A figure of Good versus Evil, of sharing versus greed. Jesus put himself at the service of the poorest and protected the most vulnerable…
A spiritual place to recharge your batteries?
Churches, because for centuries they have housed the prayers, joys and sorrows of millions of believers. When I visit one, I feel connected to that past.
