Pope Francis announces the preparation of a text on children’s rights
“The rooms of the apostolic palace have turned into an observatory open to the reality of children around the world,” said Pope Francis by concluding the summit on the rights of children organized this Monday, February 3, in the Vatican.
During his speech, the Holy Father announced the publication of a new magisterial text aimed at “to give continuity to this commitment (for children’s law) and to promote it throughout the Church.”
This document will take either the form of a new apostolic exhortation, the eighth of the pontificate, or the form of a letter devoted to children. He will notably address the right to resources, the right to education and peace. The thirty stakeholders, “developed proposals for the protection of children’s rights, considering them not as figures, but as faces”, praised the sovereign pontiff.
In front of international personalities, including the Queen of Jordan, Pope Francis also asked with force that he never used to violations of the rights of the little ones. “Bafouée childhood is a silent cry that denounces the injustice of the economic system, crime of wars, lack of medical care and schooling,” he said.
