Our selection of 5 overwhelming films on the paths of hope, to see in theaters
1. Mugana. The one who cares
From Marie-Hélène Roux, drama, 1 h 45. From 16 years old. Released on September 24, 2025.
Congolese surgeon Denis Mukwege received in 2018 the Nobel Peace Prize for the work he led for more than twenty years with women victims of sexual violence in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
This drama freely inspired by his life features him in 2011, the year of his meeting with Belgian surgeon Guy-Bernard Cadière, with whom he will operate and “repair” hundreds of women in Panzi hospital, founded a dozen years earlier.
In sometimes revolting scenes of violence, the filmmaker Marie-Hélène Roux shows how much the rape has become a weapon of war in the DRC, causing the exodus of the populations and installing fear.
“This vacuum obtained by terror allows armed groups to access natural resources more freely in the Kivu region, which concentrates 80 % of the world of Coltan, an ore essential for the manufacture of our phones, computers and other connected objects,” specifies the director.
Which, through this work, hopes to awaken consciences and, why not, make spectators want to act against this scourge. Overwhelming.
